K-Culture Log is an independent blog that helps newcomers understand Korean culture — the food, the dramas, the music, the beauty routines, and the everyday life that make Korea so fascinating to people around the world. Our goal is simple: explain things clearly, without jargon and without gatekeeping.

If K-dramas, K-pop, or a bowl of tteokbokki sparked your curiosity, this is the place to go deeper. We write for people who are brand new to Korean culture and want to actually understand it — not just skim a listicle. No prior knowledge required.

Why this blog exists

There's no shortage of "what is X" articles about Korea online. But most of them are either surface-level summaries written from the outside, or fan spaces that quietly gatekeep newcomers. We're trying to fill the gap in between: an insider's perspective that actually explains why Koreans do what they do, told plainly and warmly, for people who are just getting curious. Less "here's a fact," more "here's what it's really like, and why" — the way a Korean friend would explain it to you.

Who writes it

K-Culture Log is written and edited under the byline Jae, the editorial voice of this site. Jae is Korea-based and writes for a global audience of beginners. We keep one person's voice on purpose — so the guides stay consistent, friendly, and honest about what's a fact versus what's an opinion.

How we research and write

We take accuracy seriously, because getting Korean culture right matters. Our editorial approach:

We fact-check. Names, dates, dishes, and cultural claims are checked against reliable references before publishing, and we cite or link sources where it helps.
We separate fact from opinion. When something is our take or preference, we say so plainly rather than dressing it up as settled fact.
We write for beginners, not for experts to nod at. If a term needs explaining, we explain it.
We update. Trends and streaming options change, so we revise guides as things move.
We welcome corrections. If we get something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.
